What should I do my thesis on?

December 5, 2008 27 comments

Okay, so I’ve thought about this for a long time, but I’m at the point now where I really need to decide. So, I’m leaving it up for you to decide for me! What should I write my M.A. thesis on? Just to let you know, the thesis is a minor part of the degree. I’m thinking I’ll only write three 10-15 page chapters, along with a short introduction and conclusion. So, all in all, the project isn’t really that big. It is actually only worth 3 credits. I’ll only have one semester to write this though, so I need to be realistic. Oh, my thesis adviser is especially well-versed in Yoder and Augustine, but I’m confident he could help me with any one of these topics. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to write it in.

So, dear readers, what do you think I should write my thesis on?

The World’s Best Living Theologian

January 16, 2008 Leave a comment

Over at Faith & Theology, Ben Meyers has set up a poll for readers to vote on the world’s best living theologian. Of course, “best theologian” is somewhat of a theological anomaly. After being named America’s best theologian by Time magazine, Stanley Hauerwas famously said that “best isn’t a theological category.” Indeed, the theologian’s task is not to revel in glory, but to point to the triune God who alone is worthy of all glory. Nevertheless, from the limited selection, I was compelled to put my money on Robert Jenson. Somewhat surprisingly (but deservedly) the Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams maintains the lead.
